Food addiction is quite a common problem and one that is often seriously underestimated. It is usually being addicted to junk food in the same way some people are addicted to cigarettes or drugs. It is a fairly new field of research and there is complex science behind it but put simply when we eat junk food it can release certain hormones which work on receptors in our brain.
Basically eating junk food ie mainly foods high in carbohydrates and sugar make us feel good ( temporarily). However in the long term it is damaging to our physical and mental well being. Obesity can also cause problems socially.
Some of the signs that you have a food addiction may be – you get cravings for certain foods even though you have just eaten.- You binge eat certain foods. – You feel guilty after you have eaten them but you eat them again – you hide the fact that you eat certain foods from others.
Many of us behave in some of the ways above from time to time and this is not a problem. It becomes a problem when it is out of control and is affecting your physical or mental well being.
